Week 1 of Our Best Life Project is in the books!
Goal: Create vision boards and best life words
This week marked the official start of Our Best Life Project, and it’s already been so much fun to dive into this journey together as a family. My crew includes my husband Eddie, our three kids—J (15), C (13), and S (10)—and me. From here on out, that’s how I’ll refer to them. Eddie and the two older kids were instantly on board; S, on the other hand, wondered aloud why I couldn’t have just started a food blog instead. Ha!
We kicked things off with Our Best Life vision boards. Each of us collected images and words that spoke to the kind of life we want to create, then glued them onto foam boards. The results were so fantastic: pictures of travel, cozy rooms, nature scenes, symbols of health, words of encouragement—and yes, plenty of mountain bikes. Each board felt like a little window into what matters most to that person, and I love how different they all are. The kids were way more into it than I expected, which made it even more fun. Aren’t they amazing???

To wrap up the week, we each chose a single word that represents our best life. I framed the question like this: When you’re 90 looking back on your life, what one word would capture your best life—the word that would complete the sentence, “My life was…”?
Here’s what we came up with:
I really love these choices. They give us a lens for thinking about our lives and decisions—almost like a filter to check in with: Does this fit the life I want to create? I’m also curious to see whether the kids’ words shift as they grow older.
As we continue this project, I plan to keep our vision boards somewhere visible so we can come back to them. This first week was about setting the tone, and I already feel energized knowing we’re intentionally building our best lives together. Here’s hoping every week of Our Best Life Project is just as enjoyable as Week 1!
This week’s takeaways: My kids have deeper insight than I sometimes give them credit for, they’ve always been talented artists, and J is way too into extreme sports for this cautious mom’s peace of mind!
