Goals: Create a gratitude journal and write down three things we’re thankful for each night.
This week’s focus in our Best Life Project was gratitude, noticing the good around us, appreciating the people in our lives, and pausing long enough to let those moments really sink in. There’s actually a lot of research showing that gratitude can make you happier and not just in a “feel-good-for-a-minute” way. Regularly noticing and appreciating the good in your life has been shown to boost mood, lower stress, improve sleep, and increase overall life satisfaction. The more we practice gratitude, the easier it becomes to see the good stuff, which keeps our mindset positive and resilient.
That said, we didn’t exactly crush this week’s challenge. Life has been busy — moving the boys’ rooms around and just general chaos — so our gratitude journals got off to a slow start. Some nights we shared what we were grateful for around the dinner table (though we seemed to be missing someone each night!). Still, there were some sweet moments: the kids mentioned being thankful for their new rooms, new friends, and favorite dinners. We now have our gratitude journals set up and ready to go, so we’re calling that progress, not perfection. We’re excited to keep this project going and see how it deepens our appreciation for the life we’re living. We only get this one life. We might as well make it our best!
Key Takeaway: Keep being grateful — even when life gets messy.
